OMS and PMS implementation.
Vendor-neutral consulting on order management and portfolio management systems — selection, implementation, data migration, integration, and post-go-live optimization. We sit on the client side of the table, take no vendor referral fees, and have no incentive to recommend the platform that pays the highest commission.
A multi-year decision, made in 6 weeks. Get the 6 weeks right.
The OMS or PMS your fund uses is a 5-10 year decision. Switch costs are real and rising. The selection is usually made by an under-resourced operations team in a compressed timeframe, often based on the most polished demo rather than the best fit. Implementation overruns and underwhelming go-lives follow naturally.
We do this work full-time. We've seen the platforms in production across multiple fund types and AUM bands. We know where each one excels, where each one disappoints, and which integrations actually work versus which are vendor talking points. The result is selection and implementation engagements that finish on time, hit the original scope, and don't require a remediation project six months later.
We're not selling software. We're selling the consulting wrapper around the software decision — vendor-neutral, fee-only, and accountable to the client.
Five distinct engagements.
Each can stand alone. Many clients engage us for several in sequence — selection through optimization — over an 18-24 month arc.
- 01Vendor selection
Requirements specification, viable-vendor longlist, structured demo coordination, reference call protocol, 5-year total-cost-of-ownership modeling, and a written selection recommendation memo. Typically 4-8 weeks.
- 02Implementation oversight
Client-side project management through implementation. Requirements gathering, sprint planning, UAT design and execution, cutover planning, parallel run management, and go-live support. We protect the timeline and the scope from both sides — vendor over-promising and client scope creep.
- 03Data migration
Historical positions, transactions, security masters, benchmark data, and custodian feed data — designed, mapped, validated, and migrated. Migration is where most implementations slip; getting it right at the design stage avoids that.
- 04Integration design & build
Administrator feeds, custodian and prime broker connectivity, market data integration, downstream reporting (Excel, Power BI, Tableau), risk system feeds, and OMS-to-PMS handoffs. We define the integration map, oversee the build, and run end-to-end testing.
- 05Post-go-live optimization
After 90-180 days in production, the workflow refinements, custom reporting needs, and user-experience friction points become clear. A focused optimization sprint addresses them while the implementation memory is still fresh.
Systems we have real experience with.
We don't claim deep expertise in every platform on the market. The list below is where we have direct implementation or production experience and can speak with authority.
Bloomberg AIM
The institutional standard for many long/short and multi-strategy managers. Strong on equities and FX, integrates natively with Bloomberg infrastructure.
Charles River IMS
Premium institutional OMS, deep compliance engine, strong for traditional asset managers and insurers. Heavier implementation but enterprise-grade.
Enfusion
Cloud-native, strong for emerging hedge fund managers. Integrated OMS, PMS, and accounting on one platform — popular with $50–500M AUM managers.
SS&C Eze (Eze OMS, Eclipse)
Long-established mid-market platform. Eze OMS for trading, Eclipse for portfolio management. Common across hedge funds and family offices.
SimCorp Dimension
Heavy enterprise platform. Strong for large asset managers, insurers, and pension funds. Implementations are 12-month-plus engagements.
Limina
Newer cloud-first platform with strong UX. Increasingly competitive in the $100M-1B segment for managers tired of legacy system friction.
Allvue (Black Mountain)
The leading platform for private equity, private credit, and CLO managers. Strong on complex deal accounting and waterfalls.
Dynamo & Backstop
CRM-and-portfolio-monitoring platforms favored by PE, VC, and family offices for deal pipeline and portfolio company tracking.
Addepar, Masttro, Asset Vantage
Family-office aggregation platforms. Direct holdings, fund holdings, real estate, and private investments consolidated for UHNW reporting.
Common questions on this practice.
How do you stay vendor-neutral?+
We don't accept implementation kickbacks, referral fees, or revenue-share arrangements from any vendor. Our recommendation is based on three things: fit with your strategy and operating model, total cost of ownership over 5 years, and long-term operability. Vendors know our position; some prefer to work with us anyway because the recommendations stick when they are not financially conflicted.
Which OMS and PMS platforms do you have implementation experience with?+
Bloomberg AIM, Charles River IMS, SS&C Eze (Eze OMS, Eclipse), Enfusion, SimCorp Dimension, FactSet PMS, Limina, Allvue (formerly Black Mountain), FundCount, Dynamo, and Backstop. For family office aggregation: Addepar, Masttro, and Asset Vantage. We don't claim deep expertise in every platform — when an engagement requires a system we know less well, we say so up front.
Do you do the technical implementation work yourselves?+
We do the consulting and project management. The technical implementation is typically done by the vendor's professional services team or an approved implementation partner. Our role is to drive the timeline, run UAT, design data migration, build the integration plan, and protect the client from scope creep. We sit on the client side of the table, not the vendor's.
How long does a typical OMS implementation take?+
For a small-to-mid manager (under $1B AUM, single strategy, single location), a clean OMS implementation runs 12-20 weeks from kickoff to go-live. PMS implementations vary more — 16-32 weeks is typical, longer if integrating with multiple administrators or custodians, or if migrating significant historical data. The variability comes from data quality, integration complexity, and change-management readiness; not from the technical install itself.
Can you help with vendor selection if we haven't picked yet?+
Yes — that is the cleanest engagement. We design the requirements specification, identify the 3-5 viable vendors for your specific situation, run scored demos, coordinate reference calls, build a 5-year TCO model, and produce a written selection recommendation. The 3-6 weeks spent on selection saves multiples of that during implementation.
What if our current system is the problem?+
Migration consulting is a separate engagement type. We assess the current system's gaps, design the target architecture, build the data migration plan, run parallel between old and new, and coordinate the cutover. Migrations are operationally riskier than greenfield implementations and benefit from external project management more than initial implementations do.
A review of system selection.
Whether you are selecting, implementing, or migrating, the conversation starts the same way. A discovery call tells us where you are and whether vendor-neutral consulting fits your situation.
